The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Change Comes After Mixed Reception
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined direction.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the full message from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to heart and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our players.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming him next week. We are all excited to keep witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.
David
